Best to go on Debian Jessie or Stretch for postgreSQL usage?

Hello,
as I read a little in source code, devs are using Jessie with postgreSQL db.
As my installation is now messed up cause the migration doesn’t work on my debian 9 (Stretch), sql scripts used to insert into my postgresql remains the SQLite one. So I was wondering if I restart the installation of my VM from scratch: is it better to use Debian 8 Jessie or 9 Stretch and installing from sources directly on postgresql dbackend ?

It’s always better to stick with the latest stable version.
