Question about Alive test

Hi, I noticed that both “ARP Ping” and “ICMP & ARP Ping” option in Alive test result in the scanner run the same nmap command. So, what is different?

ARP ping is doing a ARP Probe if you have proxy-arp you will get a false positive uptime.

ICMP ping is doing a IP ICMP ECHO-Request:

But I mean what is different between these two options in OpenVAS, as the scanner run the same nmap command?

It is not a measure of the tool rather then the method.
ICMP is on IP Level ARP on the Ethernet level.
