Scan Config Default Alive Test

Sorry if this is the wrong category. I couldn’t find one that matches my exact question. In Target configuration for the Alive Test there a Scan Config Default choice. Where is this set? I looked through all the scanner and NVT preferences in scan config and I couldn’t file one for Alive Test. Is it a composite setting drawn from multiple parameters, is it hard coded somewhere inaccessible to users or did I just miss it?

Thanks,

Scott

It is all in our fine documentation

Hi Lukas,

Thanks very much for the reply. I’ve read the GOS-6 documentation from cover to cover and I did see the Alive Tests subsection in Chapter 10 under Creating a Target, but if you look at that section every Alive Test available in GSAD is there EXCEPT for Scan Config Default.

As the default it likely gets extensive use so it must work and knowing it can’t be magic, I still can’t locate any indication of where that Alive Test gets ITS settings from. Or have I completely missed something super obvious? I’d send you a screen shot of what I’m looking at, but this board doesn’t appear to allow that.

Thanks,

Scott

“Scan Config Default” means that GVM will take the configured alive test method(s) from the following VT:

Name: Ping Host
OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.25623.1.0.100315
Family: Port scanners

Ah! There it is! Exactly what I was looking for. I see them in the NVT preferences in each Scan Config.

Thanks very much,

Scott

For the records, this info was now documented / included in the latest version of the following documentation:
