Unable to connect rsync: feed.community.greenbone.net

Hi,

I’m new to OpenVA and unable to connect community.greenbone.net feed.

" rsync: [Receiver] failed to connect to feed.community.greenbone.net (45.135.106.142): Connection refused (111)"

Please advise.

This was an issue on our side which should be fixed now.

Unfortunately I do not think it’s fixed. I received the same error intermittently yesterday. I was able to update several of my deployed scanners yesterday. However, as of today the error has returned.

I’ve an issue when I make a rsync to the feed service.

I saw that they are 2 posts about this issue, and it should be already resolved, but I’m impacted with this message:

rsync error: timeout in data send/receive (code 30) at io.c(204) [Receiver=3.1.3]

Do you know when it will be resolved?

I am currently experiencing the same problem.

I currently have multiple scanners deployed in multiple geographic locations, all have different ISPs, all were working last week and all of them are failing to update nvt, scapdata and certdata this week.

Hi @Toxicnoob,

thanks for letting us know and I’ve reported it.

Same issue. Started last night for me, took forever to update and start the server and tonight same thing, except it won’t update and server stays down.Hope it will be fixed soon!

Cheers!

Any update on this issue?

Still seem to be having issues here.

Hi,

Did you know about this? It does not work yet. Anyboy knows any alternative as workaround?

Hi all! We’re still looking into it and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Due to the fact that many routers drop ICMP could you please check:

Hi,

Still I am unable to update the feed. I think still the below error persists.

rsync: failed to connect to feed.community.greenbone.net (45.135.106.142): Connection refused (111)
rsync: failed to connect to feed.community.greenbone.net (2a0e:6b40:20:106:20c:29ff:fe67:cbb5): Network is unreachable (101)
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(127) [Receiver=3.1.3]

Kindly help me out for getting this sorted out.

Hi any update on this? Still can’t connect to the feeds.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I saw something about setting SYN Cookies.

Did that, but still doesn’t work so I was wondering. I guess will have to wait. Some forums were advising this:

clone once a day the RSYNC Repo, and setup you system with environment for COMMUNITY_CERT_RSYNC_FEED,
COMMUNITY_SCAP_RSYNC_FEED,
COMMUNITY_GVMD_DATA_RSYNC_FEED
to your local clone.

But isn’t the rsync repo the one that is having trouble?

Thanks!

Hi there,
i am pretty newbie, just had my first installation of community edition and i am running into the feeds update issue.
I will list what i did, hopefully you can give me a feedback. Thanks in advance already
(i took out the dots in the links, i can only post 2 links as new user)

Ubuntu Server 20 04

  • apt install openvas

  • openvasmd --create-user=admin --new-password=admin

  • sysctl -n net ipv4 tcp_syncookies
    1

  • systemctl enable rsync service
Synchronizing state of rsync.service with SysV service script with /lib/systemd/systemd-sysv-install.
    Executing: /lib/systemd/systemd-sysv-install enable rsync

  • systemctl start rsync service

  • edited etc/hosts adding, rebooted
feed community greenbone net has address 45.135.106.143

  • launched
nc -vvv feed community greenbone.net 873
    Result:
nc: connect to feed community greenbone net port 873 (tcp) failed: Connection timed out
nc: connect to feed community greenbone net port 873 (tcp) failed: Network is unreachable

  • launched
    rsync rsync://feed community greenbone net
    Result:
rsync: failed to connect to feed community greenbone net (45.135.106.143): Connection timed out (110)
rsync: failed to connect to feed community greenbone.net (2a0e:6b40:20:106:20c:29ff:fe7f:d2ae): Network is unreachable (101)
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(127) [Receiver=3.1.3]

Do i have to do something else, what i am missing please? I tried to have a look for solutions on the other topics about the feeds, but if i am still stuck, it is because i might not get the whole point
Thanksss
