Method to scan a switch

Hello,

I’m a beginner of using OpenVas tool.
I want to scan one switch.
Do I have to plug my OpenVas server in the same subnet as the switch or it’s not necessary?

Currently, my OpenVas server is not in the same subnet of the switch but the traffic between both is open on our fw. Is it sufficient to have the better openvas scan result?

Not needed, you just need to put the authentication data for the Management Plane to be able to reach the switch via IPv4/IPv6.
