Apoligies for asking this question. Have been offline for a while can someone tell me if there is still the openvas community version available or has it changed to something different please. I have got back in to trying to teach myself pentesting and Linux again and when I ran up my old linux box Openvas had crashed. So all answers appreciated .

What do you mean by community edition? If you are looking for a directly install able virtual machine please take a look at our GSM Trial (https://www.greenbone.net/en/testnow/).

Of course the Free Software Vulnerability Manager formerly known as OpenVAS still exists. We call it Greenbone Vulnerability Management (GVM) nowadays. Take a look at Background — Greenbone Documentation documentation for some background.
